Maine Minimum Wage – Portland: On July 1, 2018, the minimum wage in Portland, Maine increases to $10.90 per hour. The city released a letter notifying employers of the increase and a new minimum wage poster.
Massachusetts Equal pay Act: Effective July 1, 2018 Massachusetts employers are required to complete an evaluation of all positions within their organization to determine if there is a difference in pay between male and female with the same job responsibilities, education, experience, etc.
New Hampshire Discrimination Based on Gender Identity: Effective July 2018, gender identity will be added as a protected class under the state’s Law Against Discrimination. The law defines gender identity as a person’s gender-related identity, appearance, or behavior, that is different than the person’s physiology or assigned sex at birth.
Vermont Promoting Remote Workers and Remote Work Arrangements: Effective July 1, 2018 a remote worker may be eligible for a grant between $5,000 and $10,000 per year for qualifying expenses over the life of the program.
Vermont Crime Victim Protections and Unpaid Leave: Effective July 1, 2018 adds crime victims to the list of protected classes in the state’s Fair Employment Practices Act and requires an employer to provide an employee who is a crime victim with unpaid leave to attend related legal proceedings.
Vermont Gender-Free Single Occupancy Restroom: Effective July 1, 2018 requires any single-user toilet in any public building or place of accommodation be gender free and thereby usable by both men and women.
